Healthy Snacking against High Cholesterol

In modern society, it can be particularly challenging to eat healthy due to the growing fast-food and processed foods industries. Adults suffer from health issues such as High Cholesterol. There are two types of cholesterol: LDL cholesterol (low-density Lipoprotein) and HDL cholesterol(high-density Lipoprotein). It is better to have smaller amounts of LDL cholesterol because high amounts of it are associated with Coronary Heart disease. 

There are several foods which are not just part of a healthy diet, they can actively help to lower your cholesterol too. It is a great idea to be knowledgeable about which foods, or even snacks can be consumed in order to reduce your cholesterol level.

  1. Beans

Because they are rich in soluble fiber, they often take a longer time for complete digestion. This leaves you feeling fuller for a longer period of time. Not to mention, this makes them a viable way to lose weight.

  1. Oats

Eating oatmeal or any other oat-based cereal every morning is an excellent way to incorporate soluble fiber into your diet.

Adding fruits such as strawberries or bananas to this gives you enough fiber to last for the day.

  1. Nuts

It is common knowledge that consuming nuts is beneficial to the heart, and with so many types to choose from, they are an excellent snack!

  1. Whole gains

These can be added into numerous meals as a side item or even an entree. They provide the necessary soluble fibers and lower any risks of heart disease.

  1. Fruits

Certain fruits such as apples, grapes, and citrus can be consumed throughout the day at any time or place. This makes fruits a better choice of snack when looking to lower your cholesterol. They are not processed, nor unhealthy!

  1. Soy-based snacks

Anything derived from soybeans such as Soy Milk or Tofu is desirable because there are numerous great tasting foods that incorporate soy. Almond Soy Milk and some energy bars include these for a great taste!

  1. Popcorn

While popcorn may seem like an unlikely one due to its high amounts of butter, it is actually a very good way to reduce LDL. This is because corn is a type of whole grain. With this in mind, movie time can be fun and healthy!

  1. Hummus

Hummus as a side option for vegetables, chips, Pita, or crackers is not only tasty, but healthy! It provides the necessary daily fibers and is a treat for the whole family.

  1. Potato-based snacks

While the processed food industry may scare off consumers with the amount of fats and oils gone into processed potato snacks, making your own can remove this concern. 

As part of your healthy heart diet, try to eat some of these every day. The more you add to your diet, the more they can help lower your cholesterol, especially if you cut down on saturated fat as well. It is also a fun experience for the kids and yourself!
